What is a recycled sneaker?
A recycled sneaker is designed using materials that already exist, whereas a classic sneaker uses new leather and plastic. Why produce something again that already exists?
Our recycled sneakers are made with:
- recycled plastic, sourced from marine waste and transformed into material with the help of SEAQUAL INITIATIVE;
- recycled rubber for the soles, mixed with plastic bottle cap fragments, which reduces the consumption of new resources and makes each sole unique.
Evan and Vivace are therefore 100% recycled, including the soles and laces.
From marine waste to sneaker: the recycling steps
- Plastic waste is collected at sea by fishermen, then sorted and cleaned.
- It is shredded into flakes to make it easier to work with.
- These chips are transformed into fibers, ready to be woven to create the nylon for our sneakers.
All these steps take place locally, in Spain and Portugal, between the Strait of Gibraltar and Felgueiras.
Recycled sneakers for women and men, made in Portugal
Each pair is handcrafted in Felgueiras, near Porto, Portugal, by artisans with great expertise. The materials are 100% European (Spain or Portugal), most often sourced within a 50 km radius of the workshop.
Evan and Vivace are unisex models, offered in whole sizes from 35 to 46, depending on stock.
The recycled rubber soles, the memory foam insole, and the breathable materials ensure comfort. As for the design, it goes well with both casual and more dressy outfits.

Where does the recycled plastic in your sneakers come from?
It comes from plastic waste recovered at sea by fishermen in the Strait of Gibraltar region, in partnership with SEAQUAL INITIATIVE.
Are ME.LAND recycled sneakers vegan?
Yes. They are made without animal leather and their glues are plant-based. They are PETA-Approved Vegan certified. Discover our entire collection of vegan sneakers.
How do you care for recycled sneakers?
Waterproof them before wearing, then clean them with a soft, damp cloth. The laces are machine washable.
What is the difference between a recycled sneaker and an upcycled sneaker?
Recycled material is processed to become a raw material again: ocean plastic becomes a fiber, then a textile. Upcycled material is reused as is: this is the case for our upcycled denim sneakers, cut from old jeans.
Are recycled sneakers comfortable?
Yes. Their soles are made of recycled rubber, their insoles are memory foam, and their materials are breathable.
