VEGAN SHOES
What is a vegan shoe?
A vegan shoe is distinguished by the total absence of materials of animal origin: neither traditional leather nor animal glue.
Our vegan shoes are PETA-Approved Vegan, which validates their "cruelty-free" nature towards animals.
The alternative materials to leather in our vegan shoes
We could have told you about Piñatex (made from pineapple) or grape leather. ME.LAND has chosen apple, and the collection will also welcome other alternative materials to leather: mushroom leather, eco-friendly suede, and raffia.
- Apple leather is obtained from food industry residues: apple cores and skins recovered after the production of applesauce, transformed into a durable and elegant vegan leather alternative.
- The soles are made of recycled rubber. They reuse scraps from sole manufacturing, mixed with fragments of plastic bottle caps. They provide good cushioning.
- The memory foam insole is identical to that of our sneakers. It supports the foot and ensures almost custom-made comfort.
Our vegan shoes are 100% recycled, including soles and laces. The materials are 100% European (Spain or Portugal), most often sourced within a 50 km radius of the workshop.
Derby, loafer, chelsea boots: our vegan shoes for men and women
All our models are unisex.
Rando, the vegan loafer and derby
Rando is available as a loafer and a derby, in black or cognac apple leather.
Lander, the vegan derby and chelsea boot
Lander is available as a derby and a chelsea boot, in black, or blue and black apple leather.
In summer, vegan sandals
During the warmer days, the collection also welcomes apple leather sandals.
How to wear vegan shoes?
- Casual look: vegan chelsea boots with jeans and a t-shirt.
- Dressy outfit: vegan derbies with trousers or a skirt.
- Throughout the seasons: in summer, sandals, or derbies with small organic cotton socks. In winter, chelsea boots.
How to maintain apple leather vegan shoes?
- Clean the surfaces with a damp cloth and warm water. Avoid abrasive products.
- Prefer cleaners designed for vegan materials, water-based and solvent-free.
- Store shoes in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
Your questions about vegan shoes
Is apple leather really vegan?
Yes. It is made from apple cores and peels recovered after making applesauce. Our vegan shoes are PETA-Approved Vegan certified.
Where are ME.LAND vegan shoes made?
In an artisanal workshop located in Felgueiras, near Porto, Portugal. Each pair is handcrafted, in limited series.
What is the difference between our vegan shoes and our vegan sneakers?
Vegan shoes are city styles made from alternative materials to leather: derbies, loafers, chelsea boots and, in summer, sandals. The Evan and Vivace vegan sneakers are made of nylon recycled from plastics recovered from the sea.
Are ME.LAND vegan shoes unisex?
Yes. Rando and Lander are suitable for both women and men. They are available in full sizes from 35 to 46. We manufacture in small batches: your size may not be or may no longer be available.
Are vegan shoes comfortable?
Yes. Their memory foam insole, the same as the one in our sneakers, ensures near-custom comfort. Their recycled rubber outsole provides good cushioning.
